GENERAL RESEARCH DONATION
If you would be interested in supporting the on-going research efforts into the efficacy, efficiency, biomechanics of and outcomes of Cox® Technique, there are two ways you can do this:
1- COX FUND @ NUHS The National University has a dedicated fund for collection of funds to help fund on-going as well as pilot studies on Cox® Decompression Adjustment & Manipulation. The current study is a comparison between medical conservative, chiropractic conservative (Cox Technique) and a combination of the two treatments for neck pain. BONUS: For your donation of at least $100, you will receive a copy of the 10 minute research video depicting intradiscal pressure drops which the technique is performed as well as footage of the facet openings and gappings while distraction motions are applied to each level.
2--COX FUND @ PALMER RESEARCH DAVENPORT A fund is established in cooperation with Dr Bill Meeker at Palmer to further the research interests at Palmer under the watchful eye of Dr. Ram Gudavalli who is the principal investigator for the NUHS neck study.
You may complete this form and return it to Dr. Cox who will forward it to the appropriate institution for recognition and good use.
THANK YOU!
SPECIFIC RESEARCH SUPPORT DONATION!
GRADUATE STUDENT JOSH MYERS AT UNIVERSITY OF IOWA FUND REQUEST
Positive news: European Spine Journal has accepted our paper with minor revisions for publication on the comparison of Decompression Manipulation with Medical Care at Loyola Stritch School of Medicine. Dr. Gudavalli has just completed three more papers for submission regarding the Biomechanics of Flexion Distraction Manipulation as well as the comparative outcomes' studies findings. (See the complete list of various articles below.) The comparison of cervical spine decompression adjusting with medical care was presented at the World Federation of Chiropractic Conference and is also being prepared for publication. This message concerns the continuation of this type research.
Present Need: Josh Myers is a graduate student at the University of Iowa who works through the University of Iowa for National and Palmer as an assistant to Ram Gudavalli, PhD, who directs research of decompression manipulation. Dr. Ram Gudavalli, principal investigator of many and co-investigator of many more research projects regarding flexion-distraction, needs assistance funding his essential graduate student who helps him with study design, grant writing, study follow up, etc.
Current Research Underway: We are undertaking an important research project in quantifying the Cox® Distraction Decompression treatment procedures (forces and table motions using a computerized system) in field doctors' offices. This research is important in many ways: to show the insurance companies, to show the attorneys, to train future chiropractors in this technique. Dr. Gudavalli along with graduate student assistants is instrumental in getting this research started, and presently we are collecting data in my clinic. The graduate student assistant from University of Iowa (Mr. Josh Myers) was instrumental in assisting Dr. Gudavalli developing the research table presently at my clinic to measure the forces applied in decompression manipulation so that we will develop the objective tool for teaching doctors and students the standard of care force application of our work. This table will go to 4 other field doctors' clinics after mine for the collection of data. This is a major undertaking of research in field doctors' offices.
The Plea: Our connection with the University of Iowa is very important to our profession's research advancement. Evidence based treatment is the future acceptable practice paradigm. Why this letter? It costs us $15,000 a year to hire Josh Myers through the University of Iowa. I am given the challenge of raising this money. I personally can give $2500.00 now in addition to the continued donation of royalties from the textbook I authored for Lippincott Williams and WIlkins, and I am asking for you to decide if our continued work is worthy of your dollars also. I only ask you to send what you feel comfortable giving. Please consider and upon a positive decision, please make the check to National University of Health Sciences with a note on the MEMO line (very important!) Graduate Student for Dr. Gudavalli and mail it to me personally at 619 E Dupont Road, PMB 98, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46825, and I will personally relay the funds to National for this program.
