James M Cox I, DC DACBR

Dr. James M. Cox is founder of Cox Technic Flexion Distraction and Decompression protocols for spinal pain relief.   A graduate of the National College of Chiropractic (now known as the National University of Health Sciences), Dr. Cox devotes his professional career as intensely as he devoted himself to his student career which culminated in his status as valedictorian of his class in 1963. Along the way, Dr. Cox also obtained his pre-chiropractic education at Purdue University and a bachelor's degree from Lewis University. He continued his education upon graduation, eventually earning his diplomate in the American Chiropractic Board of Radiology. Today he is a Fellow of the ACBR.

 

Dr. Cox started his private practice in Fort Wayne, Indiana, when he joined his step-father, John C. Rodman, DO, DC, then opened his own in 1969 at the same location he is today, practicing with his son. Locally, Dr. Cox is involved in chiropractic leadership as past president of the Indiana State Chiropractic Association and past-legislative chairman of the ISCA which he did for 24 years.

 

Dr. Cox  is an author, lecturer and clinical researcher. He is currently writing the 7th edition of his textbook, Low Back Pain: Mechanism, Diagnosis, Treatment, for Lippincott Williams and Wilkins to be published in 2011. He is author of Neck, Shoulder and Arm Pain: Mechanism, Diagnosis, Treatment as well. A member of the Post-Graduate Faculty of the National University of Health Sciecnes, he has lectured around the world on chiropractic protocols related to the biomechanics, diagnosis and treatment of spine pain using the Cox Technic System of Spinal Pain Management procedures. Important to him, clinical research and documentation of chiropractic outcomes have kept him busy and proud. Research at the National University of Health Sciences, Loyola Stritch School of Medicine, Palmer College of Chiropractic and many other locations, many projects which have been funded by NIH or HRSA (Health Resources and Services Administration), continue to involve researchers and clinicians from many fields: chiropractic, medical, research, funding agencies.  

 

A reviewer for the British Medical Journal group, appointed 2008, and an editorial board member for the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, Dr. Cox enjoys the published studies of manipulation in clinical practice. Reading the medical literature is past-time unlike any other. He devotes much of his time to reading.

 

Dr. Cox continues to see patients on a limited basis in Fort Wayne and consults with physicians and patients on second opinions through Fort Wayne Chiropractic Radiological Center.
