from a Cox® Scholar's perspective:

Prior to taking this course, I had heard from my peers who had already taken it how much of a difference it made in their practice and overall knowledge. I came in with expectations of learning about the technique and some more about the spine, with hopes of being able to utilize the technique in my practice. I am very pleased to say that I took away so much more than just a technique.

One thing this course did was give a refresher on so many things which will help me better in examining, diagnosing, treating, and helped serve as a reminder not to rest on your laurels. Along with this though, I was taught so many things I did not know. These range from things such as the effects of flexion-distraction on IVD pressures, better and more efficient ways to perform certain tests during examinations, more in depth knowledge of imaging findings, and so much more. The amount of hands-on work provided to us throughout the course allowed me to better my technique as well as gave me a chance to act as a patient so I can understand what it should feel like when performing on my patients.

Throughout the course I was shown a plethora of research that I never would have known existed, which will help me with diagnosing and treating my patients, but also educating them on what I am actually doing and how that impacts them. The hardest part of being a chiropractic physician, is overcoming people’s preconceived notions about what we do as a whole. The research presented to me in this course has given me credible resources to help people better understand what we do, the reasoning why, and how important it is for their overall health and wellbeing.

The use of Cox Flexion-Distraction is so widely researched with overwhelmingly positive results, and I can now not only use the technique properly on my patients, but use the research to show them how and why what I am doing will help them. But, I think just as importantly, this course reminded me how much fun and how exciting it is to continue to learn. The benefits that we can provide patients has only scratched the surface in regards to research and evidence, and this course has inspired me to continue to pay close attention to the new research and hopefully get to be a part of it in some capacity in the future.

Overall, my experience with the Cox Flexion-Distraction course was nothing short of outstanding. I truly think it is a course that everyone should take if they want to be the best chiropractic physician they can be. I would like to thank Dr. Cox for the scholarship for this course, and I want to thank the instructors for their time and expertise. I feel honored that I had the opportunity to participate and learn from them during this course.
